Good morning! It’s Friday again. Time seems to be both passing swiftly and slowly.
I’ve decided to keep these weekly wrap-ups free for a bit longer. I’m enjoying sharing things with you all.
If you’d like to, though, you can subscribe for just US$5/month or even cheaper at US$40/year. Thanks for reading!

Indonesia is mad at China (and rightfully so) because it turns out Chinese fishing vessels have been treating Indonesian crew appallingly, including not providing them with drinking water, making them work 30 hours without a break, and throwing the bodies of sailors who died overboard.
This Vox piece on Tara Reade and her allegations against Joe Biden is really interesting. It looks at how her story is an example of so many sexual harassment/abuse cases: it may well be true, but we just don’t have the evidence to prove it.
Linda Rae Bennett is right, as always: Too much reporting on COVID-19 in Indonesia is missing context. Remember that article that said Indonesia and PNG were on the verge of becoming failed states? Yeah.
Chuckle and also despair at this: a survey in the US shows that nearly half of men say they do most of the home schooling during COVID-19. Only 3% of women agree.
24 hours in New York City during COVID-19.
I’ve been arguing with my dad a lot about class recently (he claims he’s working class because that’s where he started…). This Meanjin piece on politicians, journalists, and Canberra gave me a lot of food for thought.
Listen and watch
I’m still listening to the audiobook of How We Get Free: Black Feminism and the Combahee River Collective. It’s free on Scribd.
Every night before going to sleep, I’ve started listening to some of the free ‘sleepcasts’ from Headspace. I really like one called Rainday Antiques. It’s a soundtrack of rain with a nice British man telling me about.. taking shelter in an antique store? I think? Tbh I’m not entirely sure because I only ever get about 15 minutes into it before I fall asleep.
Cook/eat
I made urap last night because I miss Indonesia. It was delicious. Urap will forever be one of my favourite Indonesian vegetable dishes. The coconut, the delicate spices, the lime, the fresh veggies.. perfection.
I haven’t got around to making them yet but these tahini chocolate chip cookies sound delicious and I have been dreaming about them all week.
