It’s a very unusual summer here on the Eastern seaboard of Australia. La Niña is in full swing and it’s been pouring with rain for weeks. This time last year, everything was on fire.
As always, if you’re enjoying Solidaritas, paid subscriptions are available for US$5/month or much much cheaper at US$40/year. Have a lovely weekend!

Long read of the week: Elizabeth Weil for ProPublica on what happens if we really imagine the worst impacts on climate change.
Aye Min Thant on what she saw in Yangon during the Myanmar military coup this past week.
On fair and ethical spice supply chains and knowing where our spices come from.
I’m a big supporter of midwifery support for pregnancy and childbirth, so I loved this look at Black midwives in the US and a new birthing space some have set up in LA.
Watch and listen
We’re two episodes into the new Russell T. Davies show about gay life and AIDS in 1980s London, It’s A Sin, and I already feel devastated. Highly recommended.
Otherwise, I’ve been learning to weave and knit, so pretty much all I watch on YouTube are fibre craft videos these days, alongside the occasional kitten rescue video.
Eat

Caramel slice. So decadent and so good.
