Some good news to start off with! A rare bird, the black-browed babbler, has been found in Borneo, 180 years after the last sighting.
Anna Heyward wrote a piece called ‘Bad Dog’ for The New Yorker, and it’s a moving piece about whether some animals are actually bad or we just aren’t responding properly:
Jack was toilet trained to the hilt and walked beautifully on a leash, but he also showed signs that he associated humans with frightening experiences. The incident with the man in the park began to make sense after Jack displayed the same reaction on observing another man casually swinging a rolled-up newspaper at his side, and another holding a bottle of wine. The speed and deftness with which Jack would hide and defend his food were other signs that, to him, humans were not benefactors but competitors.
Burnout has six main causes: unsustainable workload; perceived lack of control; insufficient rewards for effort; lack of a supportive community; lack of fairness; and mismatched values and skills. These are all organizational issues, yet we still prescribe self-care as the cure for burnout. Why?
I had a good chuckle at the wanted British man who handed himself into police because he wanted some peace and quiet from his family, all stuck at home together during lockdown.
Watch and listen
We watched the delightful Rose Matafeo in the NZ drama-comedy film Baby Done a few nights ago and it was lovely:
When Zoe (Rose Matafeo) and Tim (Matthew Lewis) find out they are having a baby, they resolve to not let parenthood change them. Tim runs towards being a dad, while Zoe runs away from being a mum. Terrified that her life won’t be her own anymore, Zoe is still determined to tick off a list of their wildest dreams before the baby arrives. Zoe’s increasing denial about her impending birth pushes her, and her relationship, to the limit.

I’m going to make beef rendang tonight. I usually use Sri Owen’s recipe, but I’m wondering if I should change it up. Any suggestions?
